Rainsford Secures £2.2m Contract at Brewery Wharf, Twickenham

Hermes CBS has secured the 1st and 2nd fix carpentry contract at a luxury housing development at Brewery Wharf, Twickenham. The site will include 82 one and two bedroom apartments and 28 three storey townhouses located opposite Twickenham train station. Our scope will mainly consist of the installation of eco joists with chipboard flooring, trussed rafter roof construction, timber cladding to concrete stairs, satin stainless steel ironmongery and provision of luxury joinery items in the bathrooms. The apartments will be retailing for between £550,000 and £2million, so all joinery items are of a high specification, including HiMac Sinks and splash backs, mirrored bathroom cabinets and timber vanity units. Rainsford will also be completing the Site Accommodation set up, with stud partitions and floor coverings for the duration of the project. This is the second former Royal Main Sorting Office that the Elliott Thomas Group has been involved with, after Elliott Thomas Logistics provided a comprehensive package at Rathbone Place, London for Great Portland...

Crane building London’s Shard

Andrew Marr has climbed one of the cranes building the Shard skyscraper in London to meet its operator, who said he “never tired of the view”. When finished the Shard will tower 1,016ft (309.67m) above London. As floors are constructed, the crane also has to keep growing taller than the building for work to continue. Operator John Young said he often worked “blind”, as he could not see the steel he was moving hundreds of feet below. Andrew Marr’s Megacities looks at how people live in five of the world’s biggest cities – London, Dhaka, Tokyo, Mexico City and Shanghai. The first programme Living in the City can be seen on BBC One at 2000 BST on Thursday 2 June 2011 and afterwards on BBC...

The permanent strengthening works

I am writing on behalf of the church to thank you and your team for the excellent work you undertook for us at the church during 2011. It was an extremely worrying time for us when the serious roof defects were discovered. However thanks to the close teamwork between yourselves and Andy Allen, the roof was propped in an innovative, cost effective and safe manner – buying enough time to come up with a permanent solution. When the props were finally removed, a number of people commented that they were sorry to see them go as they blended in with the building so well! The permanent strengthening works have been completely successful, with our ongoing monitoring not recording any further movement of the roof trusses, with virtually no damage to the original fabric and completely hidden from view. Having been in the roof space on a number of occasions I am well aware of the difficult working conditions that the Shaca team had to work in! Having worked with a number of contractors both at the church and in my job, I was very pleased by your careful and cooperative approach, and both myself and Roger found communication with John Rutherford prompt, professional and honest. We would have no hesitation in working with you in the future, or recommending you to other clients with similar challenging...
